How to automatically send connection requests to every new user who signs up, using Datagma's API, Zapier, and Lemlist. A proven growth hack for B2B SaaS.

Why Engage New Users on Professional Networks?

Acquiring leads and free users is hard. You’re spending a big chunk of your marketing budget to get people to sign up. But as they say, “leads and free users do not pay the server bills.”

To convert leads into paid users, you need product demos. Product demos improve conversions by 20-50% for most B2B SaaS companies. They:

  • Answer every objection in real time
  • Show how to use the product successfully
  • Create a personal relationship with the prospect

Individual demos are time-consuming, but they work. The problem is reaching the right leads at the right moment.

The Solution: Connection Request Automation

At Datagma, every time someone fills a form (sign-up, newsletter, demo request), they’re sent to our CRM (Intercom). We then:

  1. Automatically find their professional profile URL with the Datagma API
  2. Send a connection request through Lemlist
  3. Book a demo for the highest-potential accounts

This happens in the background, automatically, without any manual intervention.

How to Set It Up

What You Need

  • Datagma : to find the professional profile URL from an email address
  • Zapier : to automate the workflow
  • Lemlist (or similar), to send connection requests
  • Your CRM (Intercom, HubSpot, Pipedrive, etc.)

Step 1: Trigger on New User

Set up a Zapier trigger that fires every time a new contact appears in your CRM. For Intercom: “New Lead” or “New Conversation” trigger.

Step 2: Find Their professional profile URL with Datagma

Add a Zapier HTTP action to call the Datagma API:

GET https://gateway.datagma.net/api/ingestion/v2/emailFinder
  ?apiId=YOUR_KEY
  &email={{email}}

Datagma returns the professional profile URL, verified email status, and basic profile data.

Step 3: Score and Filter

Not every new user deserves a social outreach. Add conditional logic in Zapier:

  • If company size > 50 employees: proceed
  • If seniority = manager or above: proceed
  • Otherwise: skip

This ensures your sales team’s social activity goes to the right leads.

Step 4: Send Connection Request

Use Lemlist’s Zapier integration to add the lead to an outreach sequence. The connection request is sent automatically with a personalized message.

Why Social Outreach Works Better Than Email Alone

Connection requests have:

  • 35-45% acceptance rate for cold requests (vs 2-5% cold email reply rate)
  • No spam filter : connection requests are not filtered by email clients
  • Social proof : your profile, mutual connections, and company page build instant credibility

When combined with email, the multi-channel approach dramatically improves conversion rates.

The Results We’ve Seen

By automating connection requests for all new Datagma sign-ups:

  • We identify and connect with high-potential accounts on day 1 of their trial
  • Demo booking rates increased significantly
  • Many users converted to paid after a 15-minute call

Important Notes

  • Always personalize your connection request message, don’t use the generic default
  • Respect the platform’s daily invitation limits (20-30 per day for automation tools)
  • Only target users who match your ICP, mass-adding everyone hurts your acceptance rate
